Thanks to Megan Daugherty and her husband Don Sweeney, a dozen baby ducklings are safe and sound.

According to the APP, the Daugherty called the police when neighbors told her and her husband that the ducklings went through the grate and into the sewer. The neighbor told Daugherty that the mother watched her babies go into the sewer, but fled after the rescue began.

Toms River Public works arrived quickly and each ducking was scooped to safety with a pool skimmer.

Meghan shared a video shot right after the rescue.

Unfortunately, police and animal control officers were unable to contain the mother of the ducklings after exhausting all options. She flew away after the ducklings were rescued.

Animal control officers confirm the ducks are at their office and healthy. They have contacted the Audubon Society and Popcorn Park Zoo.

As seen in the video, Daugherty would've loved to keep them, but told the APP that she has cats. She was happy to be able to hold one of them.
