TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Florida police officers pulled a South Jersey man away from his SUV moments before it burst into flames on Thursday night.

Phillip Thistle, 44, of the Sewell section of Mantua, was driving a rented Toyota RAV 4 on Washington Avenue (Route 1) in Titusville around 9 p.m. when he veered into a concrete barrier at a high rate of speed, according to Titusville Police. The car rolled over several times.

Thistle got himself out of the SUV but collapsed just a few feet away. Officers dragged him away from the vehicle as it exploded.

The explosion was caught on dash cam video.

Police said Thistle was the only person in the SUV.

Thistle was hospitalized for serious injuries, according to police, who said no charges have been filed.

Titusville is located along the eastern coast of Florida near NASA's Kennedy Space Center.
