Yesterday our Facebook friend Arlene asked us about what seemed like a random power outage in Toms River. Today, it looks like we know what caused the blackout, and it could have been a harmless house cat.

Toms River Patch is reporting that the power outage was caused by a cat that was loose in a car, distracted the driver, caused the driver to hit a utility pole, and the rest more or less explains itself.

Folks, please, this is a topic that we've covered before - if you are driving with a pet in your car, please restrain it. In fact it's now law in New Jersey that pets must be secured when in the car.

This story could have had a much worse outcome. For the safety of you, your pet, everyone else on the roads, and those who were inconvenienced by the power outage, be safe when traveling with a pet!
