March 1st, is 92.7 WOBM's 50th anniversary and as we lead up to the significant milestone, we are taking a look back at Ocean County's first radio station. Here is a blog that we first published on WOBM's 48th anniversary, but is just as interesting today!

We first signed on the air on March 1st, 1968, and have served as Ocean County's Hometown Station ever since. As I was doing some research on the history of WOBM, I came across a treasure trove of our past.

Jim George, also known as "Pirate Jim" is a New Jersey radio historian and runs the site Radio-History.com. Jim has amassed an impressive collection of photos and logos from WOBM's past.

From Bob Levy, who's been with us from the beginning and can still be heard on Sunday mornings hosting Ocean County's longest running radio program, "Topic A", to Director of the Shore Sports Network and jack of all trades, Kevin Williams, there is some great history. We can only scratch the surface here, with some of the gems, but be sure to visit Radio-History.com's nearly two dozen pages of WOBM history!

My thanks to "Pirate Jim" for permission to share the photos, and for his excellent collection of both photos and information on the early years of WOBM!

Here's to 50 more years and beyond!
