I’m constantly in search of miracles in everyday life (and the teams I root for) and the first month of the New Year has not produced one yet. I also like to read and consume articles and lists about things you can do so you don’t have to wait for a miracle but rather can on your own derive better outcomes.

So with that said I offer this one from Men’s Health about strategies that will help me and other men take our game to a higher level this year.

  • If you expect people to be rational you’ll be spending your life annoyed.
  • Enjoy the oddness.
  • Never gesture with silverware in your hand.
  • She doesn’t want you to fix it, just to hear it.
  • Celebrate your success. Wildly.
  • Never tell a story of travel woes unless you were on foot and crossing a ridgeline. (I’m not fully on board with this one).
  • Often the right thing to say is a pat on the back.
  • Discouraged? Paint something. Still blue, then eat chili, make a bed, hit the car wash.
  • She is as beautiful as you think she is. Now convince her.
  • Silence speaks.
  • There’s a reason why “scared” and “sacred” are just a typo apart. Facing fears makes you holy.
  • The shrewd man knows what doesn’t matter.
  • If you stop judging everything you’ll enjoy life a lot more. So will your wife, your brother, your kids….everyone.
  • Be a fountain, not a drain. Create more, consume less.
  • The last play is history. The next play is everything.
  • Be sure your compliment isn’t about how perceptive or thoughtful you are.
  • Your brain thinks it’s way more clever than it is. Be suspicious of it.
  • Sing even if you’re tone deaf. Confidence is always pitch perfect. While you’re at it you might as well dance too.
  • Entertain the possibility that you’re wrong. It happens more than you think.
