SUMMIT — Surveillance video of a brutal attack on a gas station cashier during a robbery on Sunday.

The suspect, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a bandana demanded cash from the attendant around 11 p.m. at the Shell station on River Road, according to Summit police.

The video shows the attendant slowly walking into what appears to be an office followed by the suspect. The man strikes the attendant twice in the back of the head  and once in the side and leads him back outside.

Police said the thief took about $650 cash from the register before running off on River Road.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches with a medium build and wearing green gloves.

The cashier suffered cuts to his forehead and was taken to Morristown Medical Center. He remained hospitalized Thursday morning with bruised ribs.
