A man struck by a van on Route 9 in Berkeley Township near Trinity Methodist Church Tuesday night has died from his injuries, according to authorities. 

The Berkeley Patch reports 71-year-old Joseph Heckler, of the Bayville section of the Township, died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was flown after police found him semi-conscious in the roadway bleeding from his head and face.

Witnesses told police Heckler was standing in the middle of the road when he was hit by a Crest Dry Cleaners van shortly after 7:30 pm.

The accident remains under investigation. Authorities said no summons have been issued and drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
