The utility will be flushing fire hydrants over the next seven weeks, starting tomorrow. Crews will work Monday through Friday, 8 PM to 6 AM, to minimize inconveniences to customers.

Jim Mastrokalos, United Water Toms River director of operations, says "Fire hydrant flushing plays a critical role in the operation and maintenance of our company's water distribution system and the benefits are numerous." He adds, "Flushing ensures that the hydrant valves are working correctly, removes accumulated sediment from the system, maintains effective disinfection levels, and verifies safe pressure for fire protection."

While the water is safe, customers may prefer to wait until any discoloration runs clear before drinking or washing clothes or dishes.

Daily information on specific areas and streets being flushed can be found at www.unitedwater.com. Anyone with questions or concerns can call United Water's customer service center toll free at: 877-565-1456.
