Undocumented Lakewood Men Face Weapons Charges
An anonymous tip leads to the arrest of two undocumented Lakewood residents on weapons charges. According to the Asbury Park Press 21-year-old Santiago Garcia and 19-year-old Jesus Avila-Cortes were taken into custody early Sunday morning after police stopped their vehicle for running a red light. Police say a search of the vehicle and occupants turned up a handgun, a machete, a knife and brass knuckles. They also determined that the men were not legal residents and were sent to the Ocean County Jail on $20-thousand dollars bail. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials also issued detainers for the men. Several vehicle passengers were released without being charged.
