Conrado Santos-Carmona, 27, was charged Wednesday after responding to investigators at Lakewood Police Headquarters, according to information from the offices of Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and Lakewood Police Chief Rob Lawson.

The investigation began when the youngster reported the incident to Lakewood police, authorities say, noting that Santos-Carmona and the girl know each other.

The statement prompted a discussion with the girl and her mother, which led to contact with Santos-Carmona's arrest, authorities said

Santos-Carmona is charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was remanded to the Ocean County Jail with bail set at $250,000 and no option for release on payment of 10 percent.

He was also ordered to maintain no contact with the alleged victim, and Nicole's Law was invoked.

Authorities also notified agents of the federal Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency. Sources at ICE say that Santos-Carmona has already been deported once at the Mexican border.

Lakewood PD Detectives Nate Montgomery and Jason Pederson were assisted by Detective Melissa Matthews of the county Prosecutor's Special Victims Unit.
