An undercover detective discharges his service revolver after being assaulted during an illegal firearm sales investigation in Neptune. According to the Asbury Park Press, a member of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Strike Team met with four teens in an apartment complex on Bangs Avenue Friday night when one of the teens struck him on the head with a gun in an attempt to rob him during an argument.

Police say a 16-year-old, two 17-year-olds and an 18 year old, identified as Allen Taylor, were taken into custody after a foot chase. The minors were placed in the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center in North Brunswick. Taylor was placed in the Monmouth County Jail on $375,5000 bail. They all face armed robbery, aggravated assault, weapons possession and the unlawful sale of a handgun charges.

None of the teens were struck by the officers bullet. The detective was treated and released from a local hospital.

The case was referred to that State Attorney General's Office Shooting Response Team for review.
