The New U2 Album Is Out Read Shawniemikes Review

4 Lads From Ireland .... The Best Rock & Roll Band In The World

So it was a double win today! The new U2 album dropped  "Songs of Innocence" and it was FREE for iTunes members! It seems after all these years U2 stays humble and thinks more about the music and it's fans .... pretty impressive in these days and times. It was a collaboration between Apple & U2 with an impressive launch with featured both sight and sound via iTunes. Gotta give the veteran rockers props for still being inventive and relevant still to this day!

Lets talk about the music. The album starts off with a gritty tribute to the Ramones with The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone) next up it's Every Breaking Wave which is one of my favorites, it really has a "U2" feel to it and Bono ramps that voice up as the song goes on. There are few good rockin' tunes on this album that are best turned up loud! California, Volcano and Cedarwood Road. Two dramatic U2 instant classics Song For Someone & Iris (Hold Me Close). Iris is a song about Bono's Mom ( Iris Hewson ) who passed in 1974.

U2 hits some serious issues on "Songs of Innocence" including Cedarwood Road .... which is where Bono grew up. Sleep Like A Baby Tonight, which deals with problems within the Church and Raised By Wolves, which deals with a terrorist car bombing in Dublin in 1974.

By the way a little stroll down memory lane with " U2 " ... Very first U2 song I ever played on the radio was off Under A Blood Red Sky , 1983 ... 11 O'Clock Tick Tock on WITB Salem, West Virgina ( College Radio ) It was an afternoon shift and I said "alright then"

This album I think holds up really well with the U2 discography. It's mature rock & roll delivered through a youthful beat and edge ....... U2 has an amazing way of just jamming together .... a flow not many bands can do. Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr.  ~ Well done!

The free iTunes U2 download is available now til October 13th .... Both physical and digital versions go on sale October 14th.
