Two weeks of defense maneuvers at NWS Earle begin January 30
If you encounter traffic delays near Naval Weapons Station Earle between January 30 and February 10, that's national defense preparation in action.
The base, and Navy installations nationwide, are involved in Exercise Solid Curtain - Citadel Shield, a scheduled drill that military officials say is not a response to any specific threat.
Navy officials advise that there might be traffic congestion near the Route 34 gate in Colts Neck, and at the Waterfront gate on Route 36 in MIddletown's Leonardo section, as well as delays in accessing the base.
Nearby residents should be aware that announcements over the installations emergency broadcast system will be clearly marked with the statement "Exercise. Exercise. Exercise," to eliminate any confusion regarding actual world events.
