Temperatures in the vehicle were more than 100 degrees.

Authorities have charged 48-year-old Charles Loguidice of Freehold Township with two counts of animal cruelty.

Victor “Buddy” Amato of the Monmouth County Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals tells the Asbury Park Press the owner said he had left the car running and the air conditioning on while he was inside the restaurant in Neptune Sunday.

Amato says the owner believes the dogs must have hit a button and turned on the defroster instead.
