UPDATE – One Dead In Lakewood Crash

An elderly woman was killed and another seriously injured when a car and a sport utility vehicle collided in Lakewood yesterday.

Lakewood police say the crash occurred just before 9 a.m. Saturday, as the car driven by a 71-year-old Toms River woman was crossing over a roadway to enter the Garden State Parkway.

Witnesses said the SUV driver then ran a red light and struck the car.

The car's driver and her 69-year-old passenger were both flown to a hospital, where the passenger died a short time later. The driver suffered numerous injuries, but further details on her condition were not available Sunday.

The SUV driver was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

No charges have been filed, but the crash investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this accident is asked to call Lakewood Police at 732-363-0200.
