I was a bit out of sorts this morning before starting the Midday shift on WOBM.  Watching the news on TV and checking social media as I usually do to prep for my show, I was overcome with emotion.  Seeing the fear and despair of so many Texans was breaking my heart.  And those same expressions and types of photos were eerily reminiscent of what we saw during Superstorm Sandy.  It's hard to watch, isn't it?

We've been mentioning on-air that the American Red Cross is welcoming monetary donations so this morning I put my money where my mouth is.  I know that their volunteers are on the ground, helping people get through this crisis.  And if my cash can help a person or a family, then that's good.  And if many other people want to turn that feeling of helplessness into financial help, then that's even better.

If you've been thinking "what can I do to help?" then I hope this blog post might inspire you to donate just like I did.

It was super easy.  The website asks you to select what you want your money used for.  The first option of the pull down menu says "Hurricane Harvey."  The whole payment transaction took about 90 seconds.  I didn't even have to leave my chair to get my purse and credit card!  Since PayPal was one of the payment options, I just sent the money that way.  The American Red Cross site is easy to navigate and will take you to PayPal's login page.  Then you'll get a thank you message that reassures you your money will be put to good use.

The humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross provide comfort and hope to so many during their times of need. Thank you for your commitment to this critically important work. Our mission depends on the support and compassion of donors like you.

So please visit the American Red Cross website or call 1-800-HELP NOW (1-800-435-7669).
