Trump family among biggest taxpayers in Monmouth County — See the list
President Donald Trump and his family don’t live in Monmouth County but their companies are among the biggest property taxpayers around.
The Trump National Golf Club in Colts Neck is that township’s highest taxed property, paying almost $561,000 for the 450 acres last year.
Two developments associated with Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner’s real estate holdings are the top taxpayers in two other municipalities.
The Pier Village development, in which the Kushner companies have a stake, produced more than $2.5 million in annual tax revenue for Long Branch, the local school district and the county.
The Monmouth Mall, in which Kushner held an interest until earlier this year, pays Eatontown and the county more than $3.5 million a year.
Both the Pier Village and the Monmouth Mall might be generating even more tax dollars in the near future if developers get their way.
Kushner was behind a push to build 700 apartments above the mall. The $300 million expansion is being tied up by a lawsuit filed by residents opposed to the residential development. In November, Democrats who campaigned against the building approval wrested control of the local governing body.
In Long Branch, meanwhile, developers have proposed expanding Pier Village even further, seeking 269 condo units, a new hotel and more retail space.
The highest taxed property in the entire county is the Raceway Mall, which last year paid Freehold Township more than $7.95 million in taxes.
The top-paying properties in most communities are strip malls, industrial facilities and major office buildings, which all help ease the tax burden on homeowners.
Some communities, however, rely almost entirely on residential taxes.
More than 99 percent of the tax levy in tiny Interlaken comes from houses. Avon-by-the-Sea, Fair Haven, Monmouth Beach, Rumson, Sea Girt and Loch Arbor also received more than 90 percent of their tax dollars from houses.
In Asbury Park, by contrast, homeowners paid just 60 percent of the tax levy. In Red Bank, residences accounted for just 58 percent of tax revenues.
New Jersey is one of the highest-taxed states in the nation. Some homeowners may get walloped if Trump approves a Congressional tax bill that limits property tax deductions up to $10,000.
