Robert Ballman, 55, of Lakewood, was apprehended without incident Friday night in close proximity to the NPGS Market on Main Street, where officers had gone to check out an alarm.

He's charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief, and housed in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, with bail set at a full $35,000.

According to police, Officers John Ganley and Jeffrey Emmons noticed a second-floor window open when they arrived. Once inside, they heard what they described as a loud crash, police said.

The officers discovered scattered loose change that led outside, police said. Officer Eric Micalief encountered Ballman alongside the railroad tracks. Next to him were two drawers from the market's till, and more coins, police said.
