A house burglary suspect learns the hard way not to challenge residents who catch them breaking in.... It earned him a spanking.

Toms River Police say on Monday, a white male suspect in his 30's was caught attempting to enter a sliding glass door of a home on Old Freehold Road near Silverton Road. When confronted by the 49-year-old Old resident however,  he asked him "what are you gonna do about it?".  That's when the resident picked up a wooden board and struck the suspect in the hip. The suspect fled the area on foot down Old Freehold Road and was spotted running through several backyards on Woodview Drive.

Police say the suspect was wearing a black cap, orange t-shirt, blue gym shorts with white piping and sneakers. Officer Jen Grob, Steven Austin and K-9 Officer art Pennell and his dog Blitz were responsible for the investigation. Anyone with information can call Detective Marc Bajada at 732-349-0150 ext 1241
