Toms River Teen Charged in BB Gun Attack

A Toms River teenager faces aggravated assault and weapons counts, accused of shooting his mother’s ex-boyfriend with a BB gun before dawn Tuesday.

Jacob Weightman, 18, allegedly inflicted minor wounds on the victim’s forehead, face and shoulder, township police said.

The 34-year-old victim was found in the rest room of a Route 37 Wawa, intoxicated and bleeding, police reported.

Investigators determined that he had earlier gone to the house occupied by Weightman and his mother and passed out on the lawn. They believe that he awoke to find Weightman opening fire, and ran.

Authorities withheld the identities of the victim and mother. Weightman met the $75,000 bail requirement and was released, police said.
