A third vehicle, a Kia traveling north behind Gormley tried to avoid the accident, but was unable to, Stocco said. That driver, 45-year-old Dawn Kavchok of Manchester was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River with minor injuries.

Kennedy was being treated at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Pleasant Plains and Silverton Fire Companies responded in order to extricate the victims from their vehicles.  The injured were transported to area hospitals by Toms River and Silverton EMS Units.

The crash investigation is being led by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Terry Warren.  He is being assisted by Ocean County Prosecutors Investigators Mike Proto and Brad Frank, according to Stocco. Also on the scene were members of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department C.S.I. Division.
