Toms River MUA commissioners on board since May 2010 or before will keep getting health benefits while the Township Council probes the agency's standing.

During Tuesday's public meeting, township attorney Ken Fitzsimmons cited a 1977 state pension policy that entitles them to coverage. A state law since last year eliminates part timers - but only those hired since it took effect.

Officials are examining whether to absorb the MUA into existing township departments. There may be a decision by April
