60-year-old James Hoffman of Toms River is identified as the driver who drifted over the yellow lines on Old Freehold Road and into a flatbed truck Tuesday afternoon.  Township Police say Hoffman was traveling south on Old Freehold Road in his Toyota Camry at around 2:11 p.m. when he crossed into the northbound lane south of Whitty Road and into the Volvo Flatbed owned by Woodhaven Lumber.

Toms River Police say truck operator John Bullin, 59, of Bayville attempted to brake and swerve to the right to avoid the Toyota heading toward him.  However, Hoffman still crashed into him head-on and was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision forced the closure of that portion of Old Freehold Road for about six hours as a result of the crash and investigation

The crash is being investigated by Toms River Police Traffic Safety Officers and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department.
