A Bay Avenue resident faces fraud charges after duping five local businesses into buying commercial spots for a bogus construction expo.

Complaints have been signed against 51 year old Richard Ciullo, but no arrest has been made.

Toms River Police Chief Mike Mastronardy says the department was notified last week by a local radio station and Greater Media management that an individual was selling advertising for a non-existent construction expo and using their name as a sponsor.

The sales staff were contacting local businesses when they were advised that one of the businesses had already signed up for a station sponsored event.

They were then provided with a flier advertising a construction expo at the Pine Belt Arena scheduled to occur on August 17th and 18th.

Police confirmed there was no such event scheduled for the Pine Belt Arena and began investigating the fraudulent activity. To date he has identified five local businesses which were victimized by the suspect and signed complaints accordingly.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact Detective Robert O’Neill at 732- 349-0150 ext. 1255.
