Toms River Man Charged with Clipping $6K Ring in Monmouth
A Toms River 31-year-old accused of trying to steal a ring worth $6,000 from a Sears in Monmouth's Ocean Township awaits a municipal court date there.
According to information from Ocean Township police, Gary Buttermark approached a clerk in the store in the Seaview Mall at around 1:09 PM Saturday, asking about the bauble.
As the sales associate removed it from the case, police say, Buttermark grabbed it and beat a hasty exit from the store to a waiting car just outside.
A shopper in the lot at the time noticed the commotion, jotted the license plate number and notified police, say investigators.
The car, the ring and Buttermark were found a short while later in Brick Township. He faces one count of shoplifting.
