The Toms River Police Department K9s, Cyrus, Brutus, and Gunnar, as shown from left to right, are the latest to be given body protection from the Massachusetts-based nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

The organization provides bulletproof and stab protective vests to the dogs of law enforcement throughout the United States. The mission began after K9 Rocco of the Pittsburgh Police Department sacrificed his life in the line of duty this past January.

Since 2009, the group has donated more than 1,000 vests to police dogs in 39 states. When it was first named as a charity partner in March 2014 by the Groupon Campaign, they raised $335,000 in only 19 days.

Each vest costs $950.00 and has a five year warranty. They're manufactured with custom embroidery by Massachusetts-based Regency Police Supply.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. plans on providing over 350 dogs with this protective body armor with the sentiment, "In Memory of K9 Rocco, Pittsburgh Police Department."
