Toms River Homeowner Accused of Torching His Sandy-Damaged House
The probe of the March 2 fire that leveled a Superstorm-mangled home in Toms River leads to an aggravated arson charge against the owner.
Robert Raheb was arrested on August 22 on a second-degree count of aggravated arson in connection with the blaze that erupted on Kettle Creek Road after midnight, according to Toms River police.
The house was vacant and scheduled for demolition, police said. Raheb's estranged wife Gina was tending the property while he was situated in Florida. He had returned to take a role in renovating the dwelling, police said.
Flames were reported at about 1:47 AM. Evidence accrued by investigators over six months led to their conclusion that Raheb set the fire with no knowledge of anyone in his family, police said.
Raheb was released on $50,000 bail to await a court date.
