Toms River Bank Heist Suspects Arrested
A Toms River man, who lives near a bank on Route 37 in the township, is one of two suspects accused of robbing it Wednesday morning.
Christopher Camargo, 22, of Toms River, and Leonard Larson, 29, of Bayville, were apprehended within a matter of hours, after investigators searching Camargo's Oakridge Parkway home found evidence of the heist, according to Toms River police.
Camargo vaulted over the counter and grabbed money from a cashier drawer in the Santander branch, running from the scene with Larson, police said. Neither suspect displayed any weapons, police said.
The heist, and the ensuing probe, forced officials at nearby West Dover Elementary School to place the facility under "shelter-in-place" status, confining students to the building for about an hour.
Both are being held in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, with bail set at $150,000. The probe involved Toms River police detectives Mark Bajada and Roger Hull, members of the Ocean County Sheriff's CSI and K-9 squads, and the FBI.
