Police say Hunter Calvetto, 12, was struck at the intersection of Whittier and Longfellow Avenues at about 8:45 p.m.

According to Chief Mike Mastronardy, Calvetto was bicycling north on Longfellow and attempted to cross the road, entering the path of the car driven by Mary Kroliczak, also of the township.

The boy was treated for leg and ankle injuries and sent to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for followup treatment. He is said to be healing well.

The investigation is being handled by Traffic Safety Officer Steven Schwartz and members of the Ocean County Sheriff's Department.
