One of the big topics of conversation this week centered on the altercation that broke out in last week’s Toms River East-Central football game which resulted in three players from each team being ejected and both team teams being ruled ineligible for post-season play.

I was able to view video of the incident and to be honest the fight was not that big of a deal and most of the problems resulted from players coming off the bench.  Remember that both teams have first-year head coaches with little or no experience in dealing with this type of behavior and for all involved a harsh lesson was learned. It’s time to move on.

Central will visit Wall tonight while Toms River East will host rival Toms River South. Usually our Shore Sports Network broadcasts football games each Friday on WOBM AM 1160/1310  but that station is the flagship of the Lakewood BlueClaws who are in the South Atlantic League Championship Series.

Because of that tonight’s Lacey at Point Boro game can be heard on our sister station 105.7 The Hawk with kickoff at 7 p.m.  It’s a big early-season meeting between a pair of Class B South contenders who opened with wins last weekend.

Meanwhile the BlueClaws face a must-win situation tonight when they host the Rome Braves in Game #4 of the best-of-5 series.  The guys from Georgia won last night 2-0 and lead the series 2-1 so the BlueClaws need a win tonight to force a fifth and deciding game Saturday night at FirstEnergy Park.

A Light the Night Walk to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will be held tonight beginning at 5:30 at the Sawmill Café in Seaside Park.  The event was organized by Extended Arms, a Toms River-based group of women who regularly raise money for Ocean’s Harbor House and Contact of Ocean County.

However this event is personal as the group organized the walk on behalf of co-president Lael McGrath who was diagnosed with acute leukemia six weeks ago and is now getting treatment at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

For more information you can visit lightthenight.org or show up tonight to support Team Lael.
