“We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow,” said Jets head coach Rex Ryan in a statement posted on the Jets website. “Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward.”

New Kid On The Block

The Jets found themselves with 6 quarterbacks on the roster after drafting West Virginia's Geno Smith in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday intensifying rumors that Tebow's days in the Meadowlands were numbered.

Mark Sanchez, David Garrard, Greg McElroy  & Matt Simms remain on the Jets roster and Smith's presence on the roster puts pressure on Sanchez after a less than spectacular 2012 season.

"My goal is to be a franchise quarterback," the former West Virginia quarterback declared Saturday. "But as of now, there's lots of work to be done."

Smith will take the playbook he received from the coaches and study it over the next two weeks before he returns in two weeks for rookie camp. Then, he'll get out on the field and the Jets will go from there.

"My job is to compete," Smith said at his introductory news conference at the team's practice facility.

Tebow attempted just eight passes after his ballyhooed arrival in a trade from the Denver Broncos in March 2012. He threw for 39 yards and rushed 32 times for 102 yards. His next move is unclear as his hometown Jacksonville Jaguars have said they don't want to sign him.
