Around 6:30 Thursday evening, two Atlantic City Police officers stopped a vehicle at New York and Arctic Avenues after observing several traffic violations. According to a press release, while speaking with the occupants the officers could smell the odor of raw, unburnt marijuana in the vehicle and could see a paper target with numerous holes in it that is used for target shooting practice.

The driver, 23-year-old Ashalay Walker from Chesilhurst, who had a warrant for her arrest, gave officers a New Jersey driver’s license that was not her. The other occupants were asked to step out of the vehicle and cops say a rear passenger, 25-year-old Donte Gilliard from Camden, got out of the car and the officers saw that he had been sitting on two handguns loaded with hollow-point bullets. One handgun had a laser sight and had been reported stolen during a robbery in Georgia. The other handgun had an extended magazine. The officers also located about 16 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. All three occupants were arrested.

Walker is facing two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, receiving stolen property, hindering apprehension, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and several motor vehicle summonses.  Walker also had a warrant for her arrest from Camden County.

Gilliard has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, receiving stolen property, certain person not to possess a weapon, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.  Gillard also had a warrant for his arrest from the NJ State Parole.

The third person in the car, 24-year-old Najee Brown from Camden, was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, receiving stolen property, certain person not to possess a weapon, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
