The State is Seeking High Quality Food Vendors for Island Beach State Park

The State of New Jersey considers Island Beach State Park one of the crown jewels of the state park system, so they're looking for food service providers who can provide menu items at the state park that are worthy of its grandeur.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is opening up its bidding process for food vendors who can provide high quality food daily at its main pavilion at Ocean Bathing Area 1 from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend and Ocean Bathing area 2 from the third weekend in June through Labor Day Weekend. DEP spokesman Bob Considine said they're also seeking food truck vendors who can service the park's overflow and fishing access points.

Considine said the initial term for food services at Island Beach State Park will be for 10 years and successful bidders would have the option to renew for a second 10-year term.

"We're looking for a long term arrangement. And maybe have people establish their roots there at Island Beach."

The deadline for submitting proposals is March 19th at 5 p.m. However, there's a mandatory pre-bid meeting and site visit on February 17th at the park's main office at 11 a.m.

"We're looking for RFP's for vendors to enter into a operation agreement. People who have a proven track record in operating daily food services," said Considine.

However, qualified food service providers who stand the best chance of winning a bid, will be able to provide healthier menu options that go beyond hamburgers and hot dogs.

"You know, that can be anything from salads and chicken and seafood dishes. You know, I don't think we're looking for Papillon Crottin. This is a beach experience," he adds.
