Founder Jenine Shwekey said the center is currently serving about 250 families, but demand is still growing.  The expansion project is expected to cost approximately $6 million, and Shwekey said the new 30,000 square-foot building will have a variety of much-needed facilities.

"It's classrooms and therapy rooms," said Shwekey. "You know, a gym, a whole bathing area."

The Special Children's Center provides after-school programs for children with special needs, but Shwekey says that's not all.

"We also have Sunday programs," said Shwekey.  "We have weekend respite, we have daycare going on in the morning, we have group homes when the children get older."
