‘The Simpsons’ Pays Tribute to Marcia Wallace in Christmas Couch Gag

Earlier this year, the passing of ‘Simpsons‘ icon and Ms. Krabappel voice Marcia Wallace led to a few improvised tributes to the fallen actress, but the FOX animation staple may have saved the best for last in 2013. Find out how this past Sunday’s couch gag for “White Christmas Blues” paid homage to both Wallace and late writer Don Payne right here!

As with the earlier tribute to Marcia Wallace with Bart’s forlorn chalkboard message, the Christmas-themed couch gag from this past Sunday’s episode slipped in among the quick pan across Springfield images of both writer Don Payne and Edna Krabappel, both outfitted with halos. IGN first noticed the brief inserts, while E! News reached out to executive producer Al Jean, who commented on the tributes:

[W]e wanted to do a tribute to two terrific people, Marcia and Don. The episode was sadly, Don’s last.

Wallace passed on October 26 from complications of her ongoing battle with breast cancer, an end to a career that saw Wallace making guest appearances on ‘Bewitched’ and ‘The Brady Bunch,’ and portraying Carol Kester Bondurant on ‘The Bob Newhart Show.’ Due to the turnaround involved in ‘Simpsons’ episodes, Wallace had actually recorded a year’s worth of additional dialogue for her character, after which the character will be gracefully retired.

Check out the tribute to Don Payne and Marcia Wallace in the “White Christmas Blues” credits above, and tell us how you want to see ‘The Simpsons’ memorialize the pair in the future!
