The Nationwide “Clear The Shelters” Adoption Event makes it’s way to Ocean County
It's an event that has been that has been nationwide for three years. This is going to be the second year that Ocean County Animal Facilities will participate in this event that aims to "Clear The Shelters".
If you have been contemplating getting a furry companion for your home, this event is where you need to be. "Clear The Shelters" is a one-day adoption event that kicks off at 1 p.m on Saturday, August 19th and concludes at 4 p.m.
This event is going to be held at two Ocean County locations operated by the Ocean County Health Department: the Southern Ocean County Animal Facility on Haywood Road in Manahawkin and the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility located on Freemont Avenue in Jackson.
Hundreds of shelters across the nation participated in this event. Last year's participation emptied many shelters throughout the country leading to the adoption of more than 20,000 dogs and cats.
"Last year we came so close to clearing both of our animal facilities of all cats and dogs and this year we hope to do even better," Ocean County Freeholder Deputy Director Gary P. Little said.
Along will all adoption fees being waived, every animal that is adopted at the event will receive a veterinary exam, age appropriate vaccinations, is spayed or neutered and microchipped.
Ocean County Health Department Public Information Officer Brian Lippai says, "last year we had 47 pets find forever homes and dozen more in the days leading up to the event." He goes on to say that with all the homeless pets hoping for a second chance, this is the perfect reason to adopt and not shop for pets at puppy mills or backyard breeders.
