Sportsmanship is defined as fair play, respect for opponents and polite behavior by someone who is competing in a sport or other competition.  Sunday for the 20th consecutive year the Ocean County Athletic Directors honored 34 student-athletes who not only know the meaning of sportsmanship but have set the standard for their school which hopefully others will follow.  Those athletes were honored at an awards breakfast at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center in Toms River and for the 19th time in 20 years I had the honor to emcee the program.  With family members on hand a male and female from each Ocean County High School was saluted by their Athletic Director.  The honored student-athletes were:

One of the good guys I have had the pleasure of knowing, Denny coached football, baseball and golf during his long tenure with the Griffins.  Receiving the Service Award was Bob Osborn, the head grounds manager for the Barnegat School District, who is a big reason why the high school has such great outdoor facilities.

A large pat on the back to the Ocean County Athletic Directors for their support and enthusiasm of such a noteworthy program.
