The Lakewood BlueClaws Begin A Historic Championship Run

This past Labor Day weekend the Lakewood BlueClaws wrapped up the 2018 regular season splitting a 4-game series with the Delmarva Shorebirds.

But the BlueClaws season isn't over, starting this Wednesday they'll roll into the South Atlantic League postseason on a quest for a 4th title.

The 'Claws 2018 run has been historic. Here are just a few milestones that they achieved this season:

• The BlueClaws finished the year with a club record 87 wins, wrapping up the season with a record of 87-51, a .630 winning percentage.
• The 'Claws won both the 1st and 2nd half championships. Just the 6th time that the same club has won both halves since the current structure was started in 2000.
• The BlueClaws won both halves once before, in 2010, when they won the league title. The only team to win both halves and the title (so far).
• A championship title would elevate the BlueClaws into a tie for most league titles in SAL history with 4, a distinction shared by only 5 teams in the nearly 40 year history of the league.

So, how can you be a part of baseball history?

Game 1 is on the road this Wednesday at 7:05pm, which you can of course tune in and listen to on our sister station, Beach Radio 1160 & 1310, and on the free Beach Radio app.

The 'Claws return to Lakewood on Friday to host the Kannapolis Intimidators for a 7:05pm game 2.

If necessary, a tie-breaking game 3 would be on Saturday, also at 7:05pm, at FirstEnergy Park.

Then, the best of 3 South Atlantic League championship series starts next Thursday, September 13th.
