After being down for the count last week with a head cold I was able to bounce back for my daughter’s Kappa Delta parent’s weekend at Penn State.

It’s a spring tradition for sororities and fraternities and this was the 8th and final one for Jane and me as we attended four when our son was at Penn State and four for Alex.

It’s pretty much just a social occasion and in this case the next-to-last get together before graduation. We did participate Saturday in the 9th annual “Autism Speaks U Race & Walk” in downtown State College which was just another example of some of the great things being done by college students.

Kappa Delta and three other fraternities and sororities presented the event which raised over $120,000 and topped the $1 million mark in its nine years for autism research and awareness.

As we’ve always done we had a great weekend which ended with parents and daughters toasting one another at “The G Man” a popular nightspot near campus. It was a bittersweet evening as we all wondered where these four years had gone which saw lifetime friendships formed among a tight-knit group of more than a dozen girls. Some tears were shed and you can be sure more will in five weeks when we return to Penn State for graduation weekend.

Nice to see Todd Frazier get off to a strong start for the Cincinnati Reds, who lost 2-of-3 this weekend to the Mets.  You can be sure family and friends made their way to CitiField to see Frazier, who managed a hit in each of the three games. The Toms River resident and new father is batting .381 through six games with 2 homers and 4 RBI’s, all of them coming last Thursday in a game against St. Louis. Frazier will return to the area in mid-May when the Reds visit the Phillies.

The Phills by the way have postponed this afternoon’s home opener against Milwaukee because of the wet forecast and have re-scheduled the opener for tomorrow at 4pm.

Derek Jeter’s final home opener is scheduled for 1pm today when the Yankees host the Orioles in the Bronx. they should get all of most of the game in before rain arrives.

If any of you have Kentucky and Connecticut playing in tonight’s NCAA men’s basketball title game you are either really smart or really lucky. One thing is for sure and that’s you won your office pool.
