The big day finally came.  New refrigerator got delivered and I couldn't wait to fill it up with food.  Of course, I promised myself that I'd keep this fridge beautifully organized and clean.  We'll see how long that lasts...

Anyhow, being so eager to start using the appliance, I ignored the owner's manual.  "How hard can it be?" I asked myself.  Well, my confidence diminished when looking at all the lights and numbers on the display.  Temperature, ice, plus some strange lock symbol.  Which button do I push for water?  Where does the ice come out?  Obviously, I'm going to have to spend some time with the manual.  Appliances are "smart" these days, so it seems I have to do some reading to learn to keep up with them.

It's okay, I'm not really complaining.  I know once I get into the booklet, I'll discover some cool features.  And I like to do things the right way so it's worth the investment of reading time, in my opinion.

Do you usually read the instruction manual when you get a new appliance or piece of equipment?  Or do you start using it and figure things out as you go?

Interestingly, there are some good reasons why those manuals can be helpful BEFORE you even make the purchase.  You can read what Consumer Reports has to say about that here:  http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2014/04/read-the-manual-before-buying/index.htm
