Earlier that day, police were summoned to Chamberlain Street on a report of a robbery. According to authorities, the alleged victim allowed Miller to ride with her from the American Deli on Dover Road.
Miller later told her to stop the car, and tried to leave the car with the handbag, authorities said. The older woman was injured while trying to stop the robbery.
Miller was charged with a second-degree count of robbery. Convictions on second-degree charges can mean five to 10 years in prison.
South Toms River police found and returned the woman's belongings.
Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
