Teen Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Middletown Dies

A 15-year-old girl struck by a hit-and-run driver while crossing Route 36 in Middletown Tuesday night has died from her injuries, according to the Monmouth County Police Fire and EMS Facebook page.

Middletown police have located the driver who allegedly struck the girl, identified as Marissa Procopio of Atlantic Highlands, a student at Henry Hudson Regional High School, according to The Two River Times.

Procopio was  crossing the highway from east to west, near Avenue D, when she was hit shortly before 8 p.m. police said. She was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, and succumbed to her injuries Wednesday afternoon.

Police have identified the driver as Toni Marletta, 49, of Leonardo. Marletta has not been charged with a crime. The investigation is ongoing.
