I have a feeling we are about to enter into the abyss of winter, a period of about six weeks in which we’ll deal with snow, ice and cold weather.

We have been very lucky up to this point as by this time last year we already had a couple of feet of snow that had fallen to the ground with much more on the way. Ut was a very long winter.

These next six weeks will truly define what kind of winter it is and regardless it’s important not to get stuck in a funk.  The easy thing is to spend as much time indoors as possible but we all need to find an escape, whether it’s simply a nice dinner out or an overnight trip.  As difficult as it might seem what we need to do is live and enjoy through this period, not just get by.

Speaking of dinner many local restaurants have great specials this time of year, especially on weeknights. You’ll find plenty of places that offer theme nights, daily specials, discounts and more.  From what many owners tell me weekends are good as long as the weather cooperates but weeknights can be challenging.

Visiting a local restaurant is a good way to get out of the house and help the local economy at the same time.  Don’t forget the places along Route 35 from South Seaside Park to Point Pleasant that are dealing with road construction issues.  They are open and while it might take a couple of extra minutes to get there well worth the trip.

As some of you may know I am the director of Townsquare Media’s Shore Sports Network which includes our popular website  ShoreSportsNetwork.com, the bi-monthly publication Shore Sports Network Journal and of course all of the programming we air on the radio including high school and college sports and minor league baseball.

It is high school sports in Ocean & Monmouth County that has always been my passion so I’m delighted to announce that the Shore Sports Network has entered into a one-year “pilot program” to serve as the exclusive media partner for the Shore Conference of High Schools. That group is made up of 47 schools in the two counties and we will work together to promote athletic programs, sportsmanship and competition.

My team will help coordinate media coverage for select Shore Conference Tournament events while also working with school athletic directors in a positive manner to highlight the achievements of student-athletes.  It’s something I’m excited about and I’m sure you’ll be hearing more in weeks and months to come.  For more read the complete story on ShoreSportsNetwork.com
