I grew up on the street. Yep, the mean streets of Sesame. We all did! Can you think of another children’s show in history that has had a 53-year run and is still going strong? I mean Mr. Rogers was pretty epic but those Captain Kangaroo fans were left high and dry. Bird, Grouch, Bert, and Ernie have always been there for us. We feel like we know them but do we really? Do you even know Cookie Monster’s real name? Yeah, that's what I thought.
Following a major relocation from PBS to HBO, Sesame Street is plotting another big move: This time to a theater near you. Warner Bros. is developing a feature-length, live-action film based on the venerable children’s educational series. Sure, it’s an easy mark for a typical nostalgia cash-in, but it’s also hard to complain about a Sesame Street movie given everything that the series stands for — and in the wake of our recent election, we could probably use a few sunny days.
Human characters may not get as much spotlight on Sesame Street, especially since the big move to HBO, but no less than three fan-favorites are officially leaving the neighborhood. Say goodbye to Luis the fix-it man, Bob the music teacher, and Gordon the science teacher, the actors for which have been cut from the series.
