Senior freeze

Legislation sponsored by Monmouth County State Senator Declan O'Scanlon (R) to allow seniors to downsize their homes without jeopardizing property tax reimbursements has been approved by the NJ Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee.

A new add will require a web address to be added to yearly property tax bills, encouraging homeowners to see if they're eligible for direct relief programs.

If you're aging, disabled, and collect retirement benefits, you have the basic qualifications for New Jersey's senior freeze property tax rebate program. Except, that is, if you're retired from a federal job and don't tap into Social Security. Shore Assemblyman Ron Dancer (R-30) hopes to bring those individuals in from the cold.
