The state Department of Transportation is reminding motorists headed to the shore that the 65-year-old Mathis Bridge from Toms River into Seaside Heights is undergoing improvements after a malfunction Saturday kept the bridge stuck in the open position.
According to the website of the Ocean County Sheriff, the Mathis Bridge is closed until further notice. The Toms River Police Department posted on their Facebook page saying that the bridge will be undergoing repairs because it's currently stuck in the open position...
Theoretically, this won't be a big hassle. Nonetheless, be prepared for traffic snarls on eastbound Route 37 at the Mathis Bridge starting the night of October 30, when deck replacement starts on the span.
A proposed heliport for private use by the owner of a vacant marina at the foot of the Mathis Bridge at 3423 Route 37 in Toms River has residents of a nearby neighborhood voicing concerns about potential dangers.
