While visiting a town in Union County, New Jersey, I noticed something really nice. Park benches were positioned to face each other. It's an arrangement that enables people to have honest to goodness face-to-face conversations. It gives people from the community a place to relax and catch up with one another. It may seem strange that a couple of park benches made me happy but think about the times we're living in: So many of our conversations happen on a cell phone or computer. Lots of our communication happens via text messages.

I've known a number of deaf people over the years. While it can be challenging for them to interact with the hearing world, they always do fantastic jobs of making their way through. This unique restaurant in Canada flips the tables. Instead of deaf folks communicating patiently while surrounded by hearing folks, the customers at this restaurant must make the effort to sign their orders to the all
