The fear factor of the past six seasons of American Horror Story has been predicated on a variety otherworldly scares. Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have spooked us with ghost stories, aliens, witches, vampires, clowns, and beyond. Part of the uniqueness of the anthology series, and why watching a show as sadistic and gruesome as AHS can be so fun and addictive, is the gap between us and what happens on screen. Who doesn’t love hearing a good ghost story, so long it’s not happening to them? But in its seventh year, American Horror Story pivots from fables of supernatural nightmares to satirize the real-world political fears of Trump’s America, and it’s the series’ biggest mistake yet.

As if the American Horror Story name didn’t prove topical enough during the 2016 election, Season 7 may make the connection literal. Creator Ryan Murphy claims that next season will follow “the election that we just went through,” but how specifically might he mean?

American Horror Story got plenty of road to reinvent itself with an additional two-season renewal, but don’t expect any major shakeups in Season 7. Not only are series staples Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters confirmed to return, but producers promise yet another mystery theme (ugh) for Season 7.

At last, we find out the origin story of The Butcher, Gaga's woodland witch and the rest of the ghostly Roanoke crew.

Just when you thought our long national eye-roll was over, and American Horror Story had finally unveiled its meta-Roanoke premise, Ryan Murphy will throw another curveball. The enigmatic showrunner teases that Season 6 will have a major shakeup midway through, and then again by Roanoke’s end.

We’re just one day away from American Horror Story finally pulling back the curtain on Season 6, but it’s hard to argue that the mystery approach has affected anticipation. Ahead of the big reveal, FX marketing admits to some uncertainty with viewer expectation, as well how the promotional strategy could affect premiere ratings.

The Fall TV season is only a couple weeks old, but there are already some new shows that have caught my attention. Here are my favorites so far:

There are a few things that people look forward to every year in the lead up to Halloween - pumpkin spice everything, corn mazes and changing leaves, and a new season of TV's freakiest horror-fest, "American Horror Story".

If you ask TV critic Alan Sepinwall, he'll tell you that we're in the midst of a television Renaissance. But for every really good TV show that I see, I feel like there's an equally bad (if not worse) one to cancel it out.
