The indictment against William Gennett, 53, of Tabernacle, reached Thursday by Burlington County grand jury includes a first-degree murder count and a fourth-degree stalking charge for the strangling death of Shannon O'Rourke, 45.

According to the office of Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina, Gennett, a Mount Holly resident at the time, used a tracking app on his cell phone to keep tabs on O'Rourke without her knowledge.

Gennett allegedly strangled O'Rourke with his hands on July 5, and the cause of death was affrimed by the county Medical Examiner, Dr. Ian Hood. He was arrested on February 8, 2017, and remains in the Burlington County Jail.

Charges are accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless, and until, found guilty in a court of law.
