The drive to set boundaries against offshore industrialization gets dramatic support from an experienced swimmer - a withering 17-mile trek by sea from Sandy Hook to Long Island.

Patricia Sener, Executive Director of Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers (CIBBOWS) braved the waves to highlight the Clean Ocean Zone initiative originated by Sandy Hook-based Clean Ocean Action (COA).[onescreen]

The organization envisions a completely pollution-free stretch of water, under federal protection. The push counters a proposal by Liberty Natural Gas for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) transfer terminal near Atlantic Beach, Long Island, Sener's arrival point.

The company's Port Ambrose plan met with defeat in New Jersey, but has been resubmitted in New York state.

Funds raised through the event support two non-profits- Clean Ocean Action, and Gotham Whale, which tracks humpback whale populations and movements.

Patricia's swim is chronicled on its own Facebook page.
